About the Item

Joseph Goethe was one of America's modernist sculptors who explored carving in wood. He had a passion for exotic woods and fashioned his subjects according to how the piece of wood inspired him. This piece is fairly large scale and can sit on a floor or a low to mid-high pedestal. It is meant to have a slightly figurative aspect and it is visually interesting from all angles. The grain and character of the wood is of importance. Its a wonderful work as it feels slightly surreal, very suggestive and firm in its personality - great for a home that has an emphasis on the organic or needs to counteract a slickness with something naturalistic. A well noted sculptor who had many exhibitions and is represented in museum collections.
